This policy explains how Balawise (“we”) processes personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). We collect as little personal information as possible.
1. The figures you enter in calculators
Calculators run entirely in your browser. The amounts you type — salary, property price, estate value and so on — are not sent to Balawise or stored on our servers. If you use “Copy result link” or “WhatsApp”, your inputs are placed in the link so the other person can see the same calculation; only share links you are comfortable sharing. Sensitive calculators (family law and estates) do not put your figures in links.
2. Recent calculations on your device
Balawise keeps a short list of your recent calculations in your browser’s local storage so you can return to them. It never leaves your device and you can clear it on any calculator page or by clearing your browser data.
3. Contact form and email
If you contact us, we process your name, email address and message to respond to you. We keep this correspondence only as long as needed to deal with your query and any follow-up, and no longer than 24 months. We use Cloudflare Turnstile to block spam; Cloudflare processes limited technical information for this purpose.
4. Analytics and advertising (only with consent)
With your consent we use Google Analytics to understand which calculators are useful, and — once enabled — Google AdSense to show advertising that keeps Balawise free. These services set cookies and process information such as your IP address, device and pages visited. They do not load until you agree, and you can change your choice at any time using “Cookie settings” in the footer. See our cookie policy.
5. Hosting and security logs
Balawise is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes technical data (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site. This information may be processed outside South Africa under safeguards that provide an adequate level of protection, as POPIA requires.
6. Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you and request a copy;
- ask us to correct or delete your personal information;
- object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time;
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).

8. Children
Balawise is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
